If your car was in flood water — do this first

• Do not start the engine. If water reached the bottom of the doors or the floor, cranking the engine can suck water into the cylinders (hydrolock) and bend connecting rods.
• Disconnect the 12-volt battery if you can do it safely — it limits short circuits and corrosion in the control modules.
• Take photos and video of the water line inside and outside the car before anything is moved. Your insurance adjuster will ask for them.
• Call your insurance company to open a comprehensive claim, then call us. We can arrange concierge pickup or have the car towed straight to the shop.
• EVs and hybrids exposed to salt water: park them outdoors, away from homes and other vehicles, and do not charge them until the high-voltage battery has been inspected.
