Our Diagnostic Equipment, Brand by Brand

Prestige Auto Repairs & Tires diagnoses European cars with factory-level software. That means BMW ISTA for BMW and MINI, Mercedes XENTRY, Porsche PIWIS-level, VW/Audi ODIS-level and JLR Pathfinder-level tools for Land Rover and Jaguar. Other makes get professional scan tools. Every diagnosis ends with photos and a written estimate before any work.

Why the tool matters

Modern European cars run on dozens of networked control modules. The engine computer is only one of them. A fault in a door module can stop a window, a weak battery can set codes across the whole car, and a replacement part often has to be coded to the car before it works.

A basic code reader sees a small part of that picture. Factory-level software talks to every module the way the manufacturer intended, reads the brand’s own fault codes, shows live data and runs guided test plans. That is the difference between guessing and knowing.

Our tools by brand

Brand Tool we use What it lets us do
BMW and MINI BMW ISTA Full module scan, guided fault finding, battery registration, coding of replaced parts
Mercedes-Benz, incl. AMG and Sprinter Mercedes XENTRY Quick test of all modules, AIRMATIC and 9G-Tronic diagnostics, adaptations and coding
Porsche PIWIS-level PDK, PASM and air suspension diagnostics, service resets, component adaptations
Volkswagen and Audi ODIS-level DSG and S tronic diagnostics, quattro and electrical fault finding, coding
Land Rover, Range Rover and Jaguar Pathfinder-level Air suspension calibration, Ingenium engine diagnostics, module configuration
Other makes Professional scan tools Module scans, live data and system tests

BMW ISTA for BMW and MINI

ISTA reads every module on the car and walks the technician through BMW’s own test plans. We use it on VANOS and timing faults, cooling system codes and the electrical gremlins that show up on older F-series and newer G-series cars. A new battery on most BMWs has to be registered so the charging system treats it correctly, and ISTA handles that. See BMW repair.

Mercedes XENTRY

XENTRY runs a quick test across the car and shows faults by system. That matters on AIRMATIC air suspension, 9G-Tronic transmissions and the comfort electronics on S-Class, GLE and G-Class models. Sprinter vans use it too, which helps fleet owners. See Mercedes-Benz repair.

Porsche PIWIS-level

Our PIWIS-level tool covers PDK transmission diagnostics, PASM and air suspension on Cayenne and Panamera, and service interval resets. It also helps after coolant pipe or water pump work, when systems need to be checked and bled correctly. See Porsche repair.

VW and Audi ODIS-level

ODIS-level software reads DSG and S tronic transmission data, quattro systems and the many electrical modules on Audi and VW models. It is the tool for coding a replaced module or adapting a new part so the car accepts it. See Audi repair.

JLR Pathfinder-level for Land Rover and Jaguar

Land Rover and Jaguar faults often involve air suspension, Ingenium engines and the body electronics. Pathfinder-level software lets us calibrate ride height after suspension work and configure modules. See Range Rover repair.

Professional scan tools for other makes

For exotic, EV, Japanese, Korean and domestic makes, we use professional scan tools to read modules, view live data and run system tests. We will tell you up front what we can check on your car.

Coding, keys and module programming

Diagnosis is only half the job. Many replacement parts on European cars do nothing until the car is told they are there.

  • Coding sets up a new or replaced module so it works with the rest of the car. Headlights, batteries, injectors and comfort modules commonly need it.
  • Key programming adds a new key or replaces a lost one. We can do this in many cases, depending on the make, model year and how the manufacturer stores key data.
  • Module programming loads the correct software onto a replacement control unit, or updates one that is causing faults.

See electrical, coding and key programming.

Test before replace

Parts on European and exotic cars are expensive, so replacing one on a hunch is a poor bet. A fault code tells you which system reported a problem. It doesn’t always tell you which part failed. A misfire code can come from a coil, an injector, a vacuum leak or wiring.

Our technicians use the factory-level test plans, live data, and physical tests such as smoke testing for vacuum and EVAP leaks to confirm the cause before recommending a part. That protects you from paying for parts the car didn’t need.

Photo inspection reports

Every diagnosis ends with a report you can see. We photograph the failed part, the leak or the worn component and send the photos to your phone with a written estimate. You approve the work before we start. The report also helps with insurance and extended-warranty claims, including CarMax MaxCare, because the administrator can see the failure. See check engine light diagnostics.

Questions drivers ask

Frequently asked questions

What diagnostic software do you use for BMW?
BMW ISTA, the factory diagnostic software for BMW and MINI. We use it to read every module, run guided tests, register batteries and code replacement parts. See BMW repair.
Can you program a new key for my European car?
In many cases, yes. It depends on the make, model year and how the manufacturer handles key data. Call the shop with your VIN and we will tell you what is possible. See coding and key programming.
Is a generic code reader enough to diagnose a European car?
Usually not. A basic reader sees generic engine codes, while factory-level software reads the transmission, chassis, body and comfort modules and runs the brand's own test plans.
Do you use factory tools on Ferrari, Lamborghini or Tesla?
For makes outside the brands listed on this page, we use professional scan tools. Call the shop and tell us your car so we can explain how we would approach it.
Can I walk in for a diagnostic scan?
Yes. Walk-ins are welcome at both shops, 8 AM to 7 PM. Oakland Park is open 7 days and Fort Lauderdale Monday to Saturday. You can also send photos of the warning light through the estimate form.
Two shops. One standard.
