Mercedes-Benz AIRMATIC & ABC Suspension Repair in Fort Lauderdale

Prestige Auto Repairs & Tires repairs Mercedes-Benz AIRMATIC air suspension and Active Body Control (ABC) at two Broward shops, in Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale. We read the suspension module with XENTRY, leak test each strut, line and valve block, and photograph the failed part before you approve. Repairs carry a 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty.

Warning signs

  • “AIRMATIC visit workshop”, “Vehicle too low” or “Stop, vehicle too low” on the dash
  • One corner sits low after the car has been parked, then rises after start-up
  • The compressor runs a long time or starts again soon after you park
  • A harsh or floaty ride, or the car will not raise when you select the higher level
  • On ABC cars: “ABC visit workshop”, a red ABC warning, a whining pump or hydraulic fluid under the car

Photograph the dash message when it appears. It helps us find the stored fault faster.

Which models use AIRMATIC or ABC

System Common models
AIRMATIC air suspension S-Class (W220, W221, W222, W223), E-Class and CLS with optional air, GL and GLS (X164, X166, X167), ML and GLE with optional air, Maybach
Active Body Control (ABC) S-Class and CL V12 and AMG models (W220, W221, C215, C216), SL (R230, R231)
Magic Body Control Later S-Class and S-Coupe models that combine ABC with a road-scanning camera

Models with steel springs, including the C-Class without air and the G-Class, are covered on our steering and suspension page.

How we test AIRMATIC

  1. XENTRY scan. Stored and current faults, live level sensor values at each corner and compressor run time.
  2. Overnight drop check. We record each corner’s height and check it again after the car sits. The corner that drops is the one that leaks.
  3. Leak test. We pressurize the system and test each air strut, the lines, the fittings and the valve block.
  4. Compressor and relay test. We time how long the compressor takes to raise the car and check that the relay switches off when it should.
  5. Photos and a written estimate before any part is replaced.
  6. Repair, level calibration and road test. We calibrate ride height in XENTRY, clear the faults and test every level setting.

How we test ABC

ABC is a hydraulic system running at very high pressure. We check fluid level and condition, pump output, accumulator (pressure reservoir) charge, the valve blocks and each strut for leaks, then confirm the system holds pressure after shutdown. Using the correct ABC fluid matters; mixing in the wrong fluid damages seals across the system.

Parts choices

Genuine Mercedes-Benz struts and compressors are available, along with remanufactured and aftermarket units from established suspension makers. We explain the options for your model and the warranty on each. If the strut on the other side of the axle shows the same cracking, we photograph it and let you decide whether to replace the pair.

Broward heat and Mercedes air suspension

Hot asphalt, sun-baked garages and humid air are hard on rubber air bellows and on the air dryer that protects the valve block. Cars parked near the beach on A1A or along the Intracoastal see salt corrosion on fittings and on the metal rings that seal each strut. Seasonal owners who leave an S-Class or GLS parked for months often find it on the ground the week they return.

If your Mercedes is sitting on its bump stops

Do not drive far. The tires can rub, and the compressor will run until it overheats. Call the shop to schedule pickup with our concierge service, or use after-hours drop-off at Oakland Park, where the lot is open 24 hours with a key drop box at the front door. Walk-ins are welcome at both shops, 8 AM – 7 PM; Oakland Park is open 7 days and Fort Lauderdale Monday to Saturday.

Questions drivers ask

Frequently asked questions

What does "AIRMATIC visit workshop" mean?
The AIRMATIC module has stored a fault. Common causes are a leaking air strut, a compressor that runs too long, a faulty valve block or a level sensor out of range. A XENTRY scan shows which one before any parts are ordered.
Why does my Mercedes sit low in the morning?
A corner that drops overnight is losing air, most often through a cracked front air strut bellows or a leaking fitting. The compressor raises it again after start-up, which wears the compressor out. Fix the leak before replacing the compressor.
What is the difference between AIRMATIC and ABC?
AIRMATIC uses air springs filled by an electric compressor. Active Body Control (ABC) uses hydraulic struts, a high-pressure pump and accumulators to hold the body flat in corners. They fail in different ways and need different tests.
Why did my AIRMATIC compressor fail?
Usually because it worked too hard for too long to make up for a leak. A stuck compressor relay can also keep it running until it overheats. We check the relay and leak test the system whenever we replace a compressor.
Will an extended warranty pay for Mercedes air suspension?
Many plans cover air struts, compressors and ABC components. We document the fault codes, readings and photos the administrator asks for and help you file the claim. See extended warranty repair.
