Engine & Cabin Air Filter Replacement in Oakland Park, FL

Updated · Reviewed by Majid "Max" Mukhtar, owner

Prestige Auto Repairs & Tires replaces engine and cabin air filters in Oakland Park at 250 NE 44th St, open 7 days, 8 AM – 7 PM. We fit the filter your manufacturer specifies for European, exotic, EV and everyday cars, photograph the old one so you can see the dirt, and check the intake and cabin fan at the same time. Walk-ins welcome; the Fort Lauderdale shop does the same work Monday to Saturday.

Two filters, two different jobs

  • Engine air filter. Sits in the airbox and cleans the air the engine burns. A clogged one costs power and fuel economy, and on turbocharged European engines it can trigger lean or mass-airflow codes.
  • Cabin air filter. Sits behind the glovebox or under the cowl and cleans the air you breathe. In South Florida it collects moisture and mold spores, so it is the first place we look when the vents smell musty or airflow drops.

What we do

  1. Inspect both filters and photograph them so you can see the dirt against a new one.
  2. Fit the filter your manufacturer specifies, OEM or OE-equivalent, including activated-charcoal cabin filters on Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Land Rover and Volvo.
  3. Clean the airbox and intake tract of leaves, sand and debris so the new filter seals.
  4. Check the cabin fan and drain for moisture and leaves, which cause the smell to return.
  5. Reset the service reminder where the car tracks filter life, using factory-level software.

Land Rover / Jaguar Pollen filter under the cowl; the intake tract collects leaves
Tesla and EVs Cabin and HEPA filters only, no engine filter
Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet Quick glovebox cabin filters; engine filters checked at every oil change

“Remarkably friendly, HONEST, and helpful people. Thank you to the team here! I stopped in because I was concerned that my engine splash guard may have come loose. They took care of me immediately, identified the problem (which wasnt the splash guard) and quickly fixed it. Much appreciate the team here.”

“Finally found an auto shop that isn't trying to squeeze every penny out of you like everywhere else. Been to three other places around here and Prestige actually told me what I needed versus what they could sell me.”

Questions drivers ask

Frequently asked questions

How often should the engine air filter be replaced in South Florida?
Most manufacturers say every 15,000 to 30,000 miles, but sand, pollen and construction dust along I-95 and Dixie Highway clog filters faster. We inspect it at every oil change and show you a photo. If light no longer passes through the pleats, it is time.
What does a cabin air filter do, and why does my car smell musty?
The cabin filter cleans the air that comes through the vents. In our humidity it traps moisture, pollen and mold spores, and a saturated filter is the usual cause of a musty smell and weak airflow. Replacing it, and cleaning the evaporator housing when needed, fixes both. See A/C service if the smell stays.
Do you use OEM filters on BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche?
Yes. We fit OEM or OE-equivalent filters sized to the airbox, and activated-charcoal cabin filters where the manufacturer specifies them. A loose or wrong-size engine filter lets dirt past the mass airflow sensor, which is a common cause of rough idle and check-engine lights on European cars.
Do Teslas and other EVs need air filters?
Yes. EVs have no engine filter, but they have cabin filters, and some have a HEPA system. They clog just like a gas car's, and a clogged one makes the heat pump and fan work harder. We replace them on Tesla, Rivian, Polestar and other EVs.
Can I wait, or do I need an appointment?
Either. The Oakland Park shop at 250 NE 44th St is open 7 days, 8 AM – 7 PM, and most filter changes are done while you wait. You can also book a time or leave the car with the 24-hour key drop.
Can you check it during my oil change?
Yes. Both filters are part of our oil-change inspection. See oil change in Oakland Park. We send a photo of each filter and only replace what is actually dirty.
