Auto Repair for Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Drivers

Updated

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea drivers get auto repair at the Prestige Auto Repairs & Tires shop in Oakland Park, 250 NE 44th St, about 3 to 4 miles west on Commercial Boulevard. We have no shop in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea; Oakland Park is the closer of our two shops. We fix every make and check for salt-air corrosion, with photos and a written estimate first. Open 7 days, 8 AM – 7 PM.

A short drive west on Commercial Boulevard

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is one of the closest towns to our Oakland Park shop. From A1A it is roughly 3 to 4 miles, almost all of it on one road.

  • Commercial Boulevard: head west from A1A over the Intracoastal Waterway bridge, cross Federal Highway (US-1) and Dixie Highway, and continue to Andrews Avenue. NE 44th Street runs east off Andrews, between Oakland Park Boulevard and Commercial.
  • From the south end of town and Sea Ranch Lakes: you can also take A1A south to Oakland Park Boulevard and head west, then turn north on Andrews Avenue.
  • From the north end near Pompano Beach: Federal Highway south to Commercial Boulevard, then west.

Shop address: 250 NE 44th St, Oakland Park, FL 33334, (954) 303-0758. Our Fort Lauderdale shop at 930 NE 4th Ave is also nearby, open Monday to Saturday, if you’re heading downtown.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea areas we serve

The town center around Commercial Boulevard and A1A near Anglin’s Fishing Pier, the condos and homes along El Mar Drive and A1A, the residential streets on the Intracoastal side of town, and neighboring Sea Ranch Lakes.

Salt air is the main story here

Living a block or two from the ocean is hard on cars. Salt mist settles on everything, and the humidity keeps it working. Cars parked outside along A1A or in open condo lots see it the most.

  • Brakes. Rotors grow rust on the edges and in the cooling vanes, and caliper slide pins seize. The result is uneven pad wear, grinding or a car that pulls when you brake. We clean and lubricate slides and hardware during every brake job.
  • A/C condenser. It sits right behind the grille, where salty air hits it first. Corroded fins leak refrigerant, and the A/C slowly gets weaker. We leak-test before recommending a condenser.
  • Battery terminals and grounds. White or green crust on the terminals and corroded ground straps cause hard starts and odd electrical faults.
  • Exhaust and underbody. Hangers, heat shields and clamps rust through and start to rattle. Suspension bolts can seize, which matters when it’s time for an alignment.
  • Paint and trim. Salt and sun dull paint and pit chrome and aluminum trim. Our in-house detailers can apply ceramic coating to help protect the finish.

A regular rinse of the underside helps, especially after driving on A1A in a storm or parking near the pier on a windy day.

Short trips and beach-town driving

Most driving in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is short and slow: to the grocery store, the pier, a restaurant on Commercial Boulevard. A1A also carries plenty of pedestrians, cyclists and crosswalks, so there’s a lot of braking at low speed.

  • Batteries rarely get a full charge on short runs, and heat shortens their life. We test the battery on every visit.
  • Oil doesn’t fully warm up on very short trips, so moisture builds up. We set oil-change intervals to match how you actually drive.
  • Convertibles and soft tops. Plenty of beach-town cars are convertibles. Top drains clog with sand and leaves, and water ends up in the cabin or the trunk. We clear drains and check seals.
  • Sand. It gets into brakes, cabin air filters and window channels. A squeal after a beach day is often sand caught between pad and rotor.

High tides and storm water

During seasonal high tides and heavy storms, low spots near the Intracoastal can hold water. Salt water is much worse for a car than rain water. If you drove through salt water, rinse the underside soon and have the brakes and wiring checked. Our hurricane and flood car guide explains what to look for.
