Brake repair at the Oakland Park shop
Brakes are the repair you should not put off, so our Oakland Park shop makes it easy to get them checked. We are at 250 NE 44th St, Oakland Park, FL 33334, open seven days a week, 8 AM – 7 PM. Walk in, call (954) 303-0758, or drop the car off after hours with the key in the box by the front door. Se habla español.
We work on brakes for every make: daily drivers from Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan, Hyundai and Kia, European cars from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, VW, Porsche and Land Rover, exotic cars, and Tesla and other EVs.
Brake warning signs
- Squealing when you press the pedal lightly. Often the built-in wear tab touching the rotor.
- Grinding, a sign the pad material is gone and metal is meeting metal. Get it in quickly; rotors and calipers can be damaged.
- A pulsing pedal or a shaking steering wheel when you slow down from highway speed on I-95.
- A soft, low or spongy pedal, which can mean air or water in the fluid, or a leak.
- The car pulls left or right under braking, often a sticking caliper or a collapsed hose.
- A burning smell or one hot wheel after a drive, from a caliper that is not releasing.
- Warning lights for brake pads, fluid, ABS or the electronic parking brake.
What our brake inspection includes
A brake check at the Oakland Park shop is measured and photographed, so the estimate rests on evidence you can see:
- Road test and scan of the brake, ABS and stability control modules
- Wheels off to measure pad thickness on the inner and outer pads at each corner
- Rotor thickness and runout compared with the minimum stamped on the rotor
- Caliper and slide pin check for sticking pistons and seized pins
- Hoses and lines checked for cracks, swelling, rust and leaks
- Brake fluid moisture test, because fluid absorbs water over time
- Photos sent to your phone with a written estimate, split into what needs doing now and what can wait
Nothing is replaced until you approve it.
Pads, rotors and calipers
Pads. We fit OEM or OE-equivalent pads matched to the car. Low-dust ceramic pads suit many daily drivers; performance cars get the compound the maker intended. New wear sensors go on where the car uses them.
Rotors. Rotors that are under the minimum thickness, warped, cracked or badly grooved are replaced. Many European cars use rotors designed to be changed with every set of pads.
Calipers and hardware. Slide pins are cleaned and lubricated, clips and shims replaced, and calipers rebuilt or replaced if a piston sticks or leaks. Uneven pad wear from one side to the other usually traces back here. Our guide to uneven front brake pad wear explains why.
Brake fluid and the hydraulic side
Brake fluid pulls moisture from the air, and South Florida air is wet most of the year. Water in the fluid lowers its boiling point and corrodes the inside of calipers and the ABS unit. We test the fluid at every brake service. When it is due, we flush it with the type the maker specifies, often DOT 4 or DOT 4 LV on European cars and DOT 3 on many domestic and Asian models. On cars that need it, we cycle the ABS pump with the scan tool so no old fluid stays trapped in the module.
Newer cars: electronic brakes and EVs
- Electronic parking brakes on most late-model cars need the rear calipers put in service mode with a scan tool before the pistons can be pushed back. We do it the correct way so the motors are not damaged.
- Pad wear sensors and service reminders on BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and other European models are replaced and reset with factory-level software.
- Teslas and other EVs use regenerative braking, so pads last a long time, but calipers and pins can seize from light use. We clean and lubricate them during service.
- Carbon-ceramic brakes on Porsche, AMG and exotic cars are inspected with care and serviced with the correct pads.
Why Oakland Park driving is hard on brakes
Most local driving is short and full of stops: the lights along Oakland Park Boulevard and Commercial Boulevard, Dixie Highway traffic, school runs and the merge onto I-95. That wears pads faster than open highway. Salt air drifting in from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea rusts rotor faces and slide pins, especially on cars that sit for a few days. Summer downpours then test worn pads and worn tires at the same moment, which is why we check tread depth on every brake visit. If the tires need attention too, our tire shop in Oakland Park is in the same building.
Estimate, approval and warranty
Every brake job here follows four steps:
- We inspect, measure and photograph.
- You get a written estimate with the photos, in English or Spanish.
- You approve what you want done, and nothing else is touched.
- We repair, road test, bed in the new pads and walk you through the invoice.
Brake repairs carry our 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty. Our technicians are ASE-certified and factory-trained, and the Oakland Park shop is rated 4.8★ on 1,203 Google reviews.
