Auto Repair for Sunrise, FL Drivers

Updated

Sunrise drivers who need auto repair use the Prestige Auto Repairs & Tires shop at 930 NE 4th Ave in Fort Lauderdale, about 8 miles east on Sunrise Boulevard from University Drive. We repair every make, from Honda and Ford to BMW, Mercedes and Tesla, with photo inspections and written estimates. Fort Lauderdale is open Mon–Sat; our Oakland Park shop is open Sunday.

Closest shop: Fort Lauderdale

The city’s namesake road is the simplest way to reach us. Sunrise Boulevard starts out west by Sawgrass Mills and runs east through Sunrise, Plantation and Fort Lauderdale to the beach, passing just north of our Fort Lauderdale shop. We don’t have a shop in Sunrise; Sunrise drivers come to us there.

  • East Sunrise (University Drive, Sunrise Golf Village): Sunrise Boulevard east about 8 miles, under I-95 and past Andrews Avenue, then south onto NE 4th Avenue.
  • Central Sunrise (Nob Hill Road, Pine Island Road, City Hall area): Sunrise Boulevard east, or Oakland Park Boulevard east to I-95 south and the Sunrise Boulevard exit. Expect roughly 11 to 13 miles.
  • West Sunrise (Sawgrass Mills, Amerant Bank Arena): Sawgrass Expressway south to I-595 east, I-95 north, exit at Sunrise Boulevard. About 16 miles, almost all highway.

Fort Lauderdale shop: 930 NE 4th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304, (954) 562-8045, Monday to Saturday, 8 AM – 7 PM. On Sunday, use the Oakland Park shop at 250 NE 44th St, (954) 303-0758, open seven days. North Sunrise drivers can reach it straight east on Oakland Park Boulevard.

Neighborhoods we serve

Sunrise Golf Village and the east end near University Drive, Sunrise Lakes, Springtree, Welleby, the neighborhoods along Nob Hill Road and Pine Island Road, and the west end around Sawgrass Mills, the arena and Markham Park. Drivers from Plantation, Lauderhill and Weston use the same routes.

What Sunrise driving does to a car

Sunrise covers a lot of ground from east to west, and many residents split their driving between long boulevards with lights and fast highway runs on the Sawgrass Expressway, I-595 and I-75. Add event traffic around the arena and holiday traffic at Sawgrass Mills, and a few problems come up again and again:

  • Tire wear and alignment. Highway speed, heat and the occasional pothole wear tires unevenly, especially on heavier SUVs and EVs. A car that pulls or a steering wheel that sits off-center after a hard hit needs an alignment check. See tires and wheel alignment.
  • Cooling system. Sitting in traffic on a 90-degree afternoon is when a tired radiator, water pump or plastic coolant pipe finally gives up. A sweet smell, drips under the front of the car or a rising temperature gauge are warnings to act on. See coolant leak repair.
  • A/C. Compressors, condensers and blend-door actuators get a full workout nine or ten months of the year.
  • EV tires, brakes and 12-volt batteries. Teslas and other EVs are heavy and quick, so they go through tires faster than many owners expect, and a weak 12-volt battery can leave you locked out. See EV and hybrid service.
  • Highway brake wear. Hard stops from highway speed heat rotors. Vibration through the pedal at the bottom of an off-ramp is a sign the rotors are uneven.

A quick check before highway season

Summer storms and long runs on the Sawgrass Expressway are when small problems turn into breakdowns. A few things worth checking yourself, or asking us to check at your next visit:

  • Tire pressure, checked cold in the morning. Heat raises pressure through the day, but a slow leak still leaves a tire underinflated, and an underinflated tire at highway speed overheats.
  • Wiper blades and washer fluid. Sun cracks the rubber, and you find out in the first downpour.
  • Coolant level and color, with the engine cold. Low or rusty coolant means a leak or overdue service.
  • Warning lights. A tire-pressure, battery or check-engine light deserves a scan before a long trip.
